Wednesday, March 03, 2004 listening to: H.I.M. - Join Me In Death --- it's so morbidly beautiful it hurts the heroes of H.I.M's Join Me in Death are none other than Romeo and Juliet. most everyone knows the story-- romeo and juliet are on opposite sides of viciously feuding families but fall in love anyways, blah blah, they get married, blah blah, one kills the other's cousin, blah blah, romeo skips town, juliet feigns death but romeo doesn't know, blah blah, romeo kills himself in grief, juliet finds out romeo is dead and kills herself -- because she can't bear to live without romeo. is that about right? who's the star of the show? no my friends, not romeo or juliet, it's love for godsakes (didn't you see shakespeare in love?)! love had the power to end feuds and bring people together who you would never think would get along. at the same time, it killed two kids and caused them each a life's worth of agony. so this crazy little thing called love. it's so fulfilling and completing that we have special ceremonies and parties just to celebrate it and yet it can bring so much personal anguish, real or imagined. whole industries that are built upon it. it's fleeting, and yet lasts forever. it feels delicious and at the same time, so painful. some people live for it. some people die for it. it drives some people, and drives others crazy. it's a horrbily wonderful dichotomy. i know of several people (probably know more than that), off the top of my head, for whom this is a truth, myself inlcuded. actually.... hasn't EVERYONE felt this at one time or another? UGH Join Me In Death by H.I.M.
