If you're looking for the band, click to go to Screamapillar Rocks and now-- on with the show! Monday, October 21, 2002 longer is better--but... Okay, before you go thinking nasty thoughts, I’m talking about HAIR. Yes. And this is not just any old hair we’re talking about. NO SIR, this is the hair FAIRY TALES and PANTENE commercials are made of, the hair you wish you had, like crystal gayle’s (if you know who she is) but longer. Straighter. Thicker. The most elegant most unreal hair you could possibly hope to imagine. HAIR-- seven feet long, beautiful, silky, curtain-like, gotta-run-my-fingers-through-it, HAIR. the kind of hair fine japanese courtiers had oh so long ago. the kind rapunzel threw down that tall tall tower. the kind that lady godiva had... ooh la la. think about it. when those fairy tales described thair fairy princesses, what kind of hair did they have? LONG. and for japanese women a long long time ago a long debilitating train of hair was the way to go if you wanted a good looking guy to even take a look at you. for a woman, long hair is plain and simple a symbol. of beauty, of femininity, and for some it's even a source of pride. i remember reading a short story in enlgish class in high school, about this woman who had a mane of long shiny silver-gray hair. she was staying in a hospital, because she was old and sick, i think, and everyday she combed it and admired herself in the mirror. as the story goes, one day, the hospital attendants cut it, and she went crazy, or went into deep depression, or died or something... her hair was just THAT important to her. for myself, my hair isn't quite that important, as long as i can remember, as long as i've had a say in what length my hair was, it's been long-- probably because my parents gave me a bowl haircut until i was about 5, so finally getting to keep my hair long was a big deal to me. i loved my long hair then, and i would brush it all the time, and it got really long. i was proud of it, it was really thick and nice, and it was fun to have around if i felt like i needed to braid something. cut to junior year of high school. for some reason, i felt the need to cut my hair. i cut off about a foot of my hair, so that it was at my jawline. when it was all done i vowed never to cut my hair so short ever again. some boys had longer hair than i did! needless to say, i didn't feel very good about having such short hair. and in truth it wasn't really that short. but dammit... i missed it. so what? well, as unenjoyable as it has been not having long hair, i can only imagine what it might be like to have NO hair. as mentioned before long hair, at least for some girls, hair is a symbol of beauty and femininity...right? so imagine not having that taken away. POOF, there go your beauty and femininity. oh, and there goes that normal thing too cuz, let's face it, hair is normal for a girl, and no hair is not. well. as much as i don't like the thought of cutting my hair -- i just cut it... but not short... you probably wont' even notice ^_^ --the thought of having even less hair horrifies me. so when my fellow hankido-er and super cool black belt lisa offered the idea of getting our hair cut to donate to a cancer patient, i was totally not into it. but then i thought about it. my hair will grow back. this patients probably won't. at least not for awhile. and having hair would probably make her feel a lot more... normal. so i lose a little hair. it'll be back in a year. i help out someone that will be very happy to have hair. plus i won't have to use so much water and shampoo when i shower. hey lisa-- bring on the scissors. posted by tha muce -|- 10/21/2002 03:32:00 AM -|- reassuring comments?!?! ---> so far!
